Felipe Rodriguez had defied the odds when he walked out of Otisville Correctional Facility on January 26, 2017. He had received clemency by Gov. Andrew Cuomo for the murder of Maureen Fernandez. Felipe had spent 27 years maintaining his innocence, even passing up chances for parole because it required admitting guilt, but his next task would be just as daunting.
This project follows Felipe in the ensuing months after his release and documents his struggles and triumphs as he adjusts to freedom in a world far different than the one he left while supporting himself and reconnecting with his now 30-year-old son.
